Hi there guys is there a point to upgrade any of my components?
Here are specs:
I7 4770k 4.4ghz @1.246v
MSI Z87 gd65 mobo
EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX
8gb ram 2x4gb
Corsair AX760
Corsair H100i
Samsung evo 840 120gb

I was thinking about new cpu from skylake but not sure if it's worth it? Any recommendations on what could I possibly upgrade to give be boost in 1080p gaming and occasional rendering for youtube.

Keep what you have and add more ram to make 16Gb and get a better graphics card

For gaming all you need is probably a new gpu. 8gb of ram is still plenty. Bigger capacity ssd would be a nice upgrade too.

Depends on the res though. The 780 is hardly a ancient card and I haven't come across anything that makes mine struggle at 1920x1200.

I almost have the same spec but i7 4790k overclocked to 4.7ghz. It scores the same in Cinebench as Skylake i7 at stock settings

Another 8gb ram, overclock to 4.7ghz and 980Ti should hold you out for a while. Though a 780 is easily enough for most if not all games in 1080p and youtube. Hell, an onboard card can render youtube!

Better off just upgrading the gpu 780's non "Ti" aren't far ahead of a 7970 or overclocked 7950 are they ?.

A 7950/7970 @ 1100mhz is on the tails of a stock 780 and you can buy a 7950 for £50-60 so it baffles me why people are still paying £140+ for 780's.

That £140 will be down to £100 or maybe less sooner or later for 780's and 780 ti's will be £140.

Thanks guys for advice so it looks like Im going to sell my gpu for around £160, save some money and get 980ti which should be an upgrade :P Also does 980ti support full dx12 as I heard maxwell doesnt fully supported ( I read it somewhere today)

Also is it worth it to buy 980ti 2nd hand or should I save bit more and buy new?

I think it's wise cant see a non ti 780 commanding £160 secondhand that much longer seen 970's go for not much more.
But then everything else drops a bit too, truth is there's never the best time to upgrade can only try to limit the damage.

780 is more comparable to an AMD 290. Recently went from sli 780 to a single 980ti. Max fps at stock is down a little bit. But minimum and average are similar, less power used and a lot less noise and heat.

according to anandtech it's barely faster than a 7970 at 1ghz and all 7950/7970 can do 1100mhz.

How is a single 780 working out for you currently? I recently went form 2x 780 to a 980ti due to one of my 780's dying (bought second hand so cant get it fixed under warranty.) However had it not died I would have ran with them until the die shrink. I game at 1440 so a single 780 doesn't cut it, but if your 780 is still doing its job then it may be best to wait for the die shrink.

Eh, your system should max out anything at 1080p.. Upgrade to a higher res if you get a 980ti, it's a waste of money otherwise..

The latest is that most Nvidia cards don't support Async Compute in hardware and must rely on drivers. This could affect upcoming DX12 games but too early to tell at the moment. May be worth waiting a month or two before putting down over £500 for a gpu that might start struggling when more DX12 games come out. Or alternatively get an AMD card that does support the features in hardware already.

Agree with the above get more RAM, 16GB will help with rendering. I assume your OS is on the Samsung SSD, maybe get another bigger SSD for your games, can help with loading times. A 780 is still a great card but if you want higher frames or higher graphics options then an 980ti would be nice, maybe get an Asus Rog Swift at same time :D

I loved my 780, but I do always find it slightly bemusing when people say it'll max anything at 1080P. I guess my idea of max and others of max are two different things.

I can list quite a few games where it struggled to maintain 60fps at 1080p maxed out.

A 290 will run rings round a stock 780 these days. Latest reviews have the 7970ghz withing 10% of one. It's aging quickly if you ask me.
