Upgrade Issue/Help.

So here's the story/issue I need help with folks.
I upgraded this week from a 980 to a 1080 for no reason really other than I had to buy something new.

But since upgrading my computer seems to be struggling.
It'll hang at start often taking 5 minutes to allow you to be able to do anything, games that I used to run no problem at all crash within minutes etc
In all honesty right now if anything it seems like the 1080 has made my PC worse not better.

So what can I try to resolve this?
I've uninstalled the drivers and re-installed.
The BIOS on the MOBO is up to date.
And um I'm out of things to try other than a complete re-install of windows but I'd prefer not to do that if possible.
I've never had an issue after changing a GPU before so is this common or unlikely to be what is causing the issue?

Brief PC specs if it helps
Intel i7 - 6700K
16GB RAM
Asus 1080
All sat on a Maxims VIII Hero motherboard.

Ok so more info the CPU is often running at 100% upon start up, on opening new programmes hell even just opening the windows menu causes it.
I've not had this issue once prior to the upgrade so I'm confused as it appears to be more CPU related but the issues only started upon installing the new GPU.

Put the old one in and see if the issues clear up? Beyond that, check a cable hasn't come slightly loose(unplug and replug, psu and hdd cables).

If you don't have the old GPU anymore, remove the GPU and run the system with the onboard GPU for half an hour and see if the system behaves.
 
Ok I've now re-installed Windows, and the computer appears to be running fine.

Yet I still have issues, running a game in VR and it appears the GPU is crashing screen freezes comes up with all blocks of pixels, literally can't do anything visually, then screen goes black and that's the last you see of a picture till you reboot.

Card hasn't been Overclocked literally as it arrived in the box from OC, this is frying my head an upgrade shouldn't cause all these issues surely?
 
Seeing as you mentioned the screen going pixellated that would lean towards a gpu problem. It shouldn't be anything to do with power because the EVGA BQ series are decent units plus the 1080 draws less power than the 980 anyway. Are you able to test the graphics card in another pc?
 
Unable to do both right now, unfortunately, 980 was sold the day after 1080 arrived which is unfortunately when I noticed all these issues popping up.
and I can't get to my mates with another PC for a few weeks as he's away.
I'm completely stumped for things to try now, so far I've given all this a go...

Completely fresh Windows install.
BIOS Updated
Drivers for anything and everything updated
Memory Check Performed
CPU Overclock removed
even checked all cables and plugs checked

Is there anything else I can possibly try? or should I just contact OC for an exchange? I want the card but I'm thinking it's dead.
 
Out of curiosity I just run Furmark, on a simple 1080 setting. It couldn't even get to the end of the test before this happens.

Which is then the end of my ability to do anything and I have to restart the PC.

As i mentioned previously, why not test the iGPU (onboard graphics), totally taking the 1080 out of the loop to validate whether that's the specific problem area. Pretty much looks like a GPU problem, but some simple validation on that would be straight-forward enough and it's not like you can realistically make use of the GPU with the current issues anyway.

Yep, literally updated the drivers for everything on my PC from mouse to GPU.

Been running on onboard graphics for the last hour now, but obviously can't go playing my games in VR as that's just not going to work.
But I did run Furmark on it and it did manage to complete the 1080 benchmark, obviously not very well but still, it completed it.

So anyway, I think I've exhausted everything I can and I appreciate the suggests and help I've had folks.
The card will now be heading back to OC for a replacement, as it would appear to be a dud.
