So, I decided that after christmas i'd start buying parts for a new build. I'm in the process of selling my old Q6600 3.2 P35 rig so this will provide the funds for the final parts.

So far: (components)

2x MSi GTX 460 786mb already overclocked and both stable (been playing with those already)

8 gig of corsair vengeance 1600mhz DDR3 (2x4)

850W coolermaster silent pro PSU

Cubitek tattoo fire (the red and black one - yes i know its a little on the small side for a watercooling loop)

HDDs: 64gig crucial sata3 SSD
1tb WD green ~5000 rpm (for data, quiet running)

im a gamer, i dont have huge ammounts of music or videos to store, i use steam primarily. playing FPS and RTS games. i used to play wow but ive kicked that habbit now (thank god!)

ive got all the additional cables needed to make this thing pretty so nothing else needed there.

so remaining components are mobo and cpu which are ofc up to discussion.
i want to keep the red / black theme for the motherboard so a dark (black if possible) PCB will be required. ive got a set of Lamptron red slot covers for any unused slots to tidy up the motherboard when looking through the window so im not too fussed about the slot colours really, however the VRM covers are usually the most striking part of the motherboards design.

2500k or 2600k ill probably get the 2600 purely because my budget will probably stretch that far and ill probably kick myself for not getting it and forever not knowing what ive been missing!

the watercooling is a modest setup:

phobya gchanger 140.1 rad. nice and thick fits in the drive bays perfectly,
prolimatech 140mm red vortex fans
tygon 7/16 -> 5/8 tubing
EK nickel plexi HF waterblock
EK 150 basic res

ive got the cyclone 460's for the quiet factor in the build plus its nice to not look at a big grey brick like my old 295

so in short, im looking for mobo cpu advice for my red - black themed PC.

edit: should probably offer a budget ~ £350 - 450 can vary a little. im not adverse to a AMD rig either
any help appreciated! thanks

im with you on the fatality board, great price for the features even if the trinkets look a bit daft in places. with ASrock releasing their plans for the product recall i feel reassured too.

the debate between the 2500k and the 2600k rages on in a different thread so ill probably keep doing my research. your both probably right about the motherboard though ^^
