youve stated its socket 939, so no you wont be able to use AM" CPU, youd need a new mobo + CPU + probably RAM as well, whats your actual upgrade budget? And what are the specs of the rest of the system?

so what your saying is you cant get socket939 cpu's anymore? due to the *youd need a new mobo + CPU + probably RAM as well* as for the budget i could throw upto £1000 at it but all i wanna do is upgrade my cpu

Welcome to the forums :)

You will find that the socket 939 X2 cpus go for silly money and can only really be found at auction.

What are you needing the faster cpu for?
Do you have 4Gb of ram already?

How much are you able to spend?

Yeah its not worth upgrading, and if youve got a grand to spare you could get a complete new system, if youre wanting we can do you a good spec, is that grand for whole system or base unit only?

Sorry missed the £1k budget :)

If thats the case then definately get a new mb/cpu and ram for a fraction of that :)

A wolfy or quad would easily give you a machine more thats twice as fast whereas a cpu upgrade that would probably cost you near £100 at auction would only be a small % upgrade

it depends on what he uses the system for. if it's only for internet/work stuff then no need to upgrade your cpu. if its a gaming system then build a whole new system for around £350-£450.
