Upgrade my CPU?

Hi all,

Just exploring options to upgrade my current CPU/mobo - I have an i7 5820K paired with a 3080 Ti. Playing at 4K at 60Hz and 3440x1440 at 144Hz

I intended to wait another 2 years before upgrading so that I can hop on DDR5, but considering doing an upgrade sooner as I am starting to see some weirdness with my PC. Occasionally hanging etc (no overclock so can't be the cause).

If I upgrade sooner, I would probably splash less so I can hop on DDR5 in 3 years.

Would an upgrade to an i5 10600k on B560 be worth it?
Potentially looking at CPU and board for £300ish (MSI MAG B560M MORTAR mATX).
As I understand 1 limitation is that I'll only get PCie gen 3 and not 4.

Maybe worth waiting till Intel release the 12400F + B660 which is due in a month or two and using that to hold you over till DDR5 matures.

Interesting, just went to check that out. Looks pretty good and hopefully going to be priced pretty low. Thanks for that, could be a really good shout.

Should be priced around the £150-170 mark so with a decent B660 you should be looking at under £300 for the combo.

I'd stick with the 5820 for a bit, should be fine for now and after a bit of time/saving you can upgrade to a 12 series or Zen 4. But then again, experiencing weirdness is a good time to upgrade.

Yeh ultimately I would like to wait and do a real enthusiast upgrade. - enthusiast CPU/board and DDR5, new PSU and probably case.

I think I'm going to try and troubleshoot and see if I can fix things rather than just upgrade.

12400F looking like a £180 part, with 12400 at £200. With B660 boards priced anywhere from £100 to £250.

Saw a deal for a 5600X paired with ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS Micro ATX priced at £360.

Unsure what's a better deal (need to evaluate the boards).

5600X has an unlocked multiplier but looks like 12400(F) supports DDR5 and PCie 5.0

DDR5 is at least twice the cost of DDR4 so that would be a cost effective upgrade.

You should check out benchmarks.

Yeh I think I'll probably wait for DDR5 to mature anyway and just use my current ram in this upgrade.

Just not sure what's a better upgrade now.
DDR5 was more Future proofing.

You say your pc is occasionally hanging have you checked temps and would download memtest to test ram.
