I can feel my wallet groaning, just to recap on an earlier post regarding monitors, I'd love a 144hz but not a humongous one, is there a sweet spot in relation to screen size and resolution nowadays?

Usually it is 1440P for 27"

But my gaming screen is currently the 24" 1440P AOC jobbie - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...d-multimedia-monitor-black-red-mo-047-ao.html

I dont know about you but I prefer to have all the action infront of my vision, hence why I dont use ultra wide screen monitors where you need to turn your head side to side to see the enemy creeping in the bushes.

Any particular reason you always spec that crazy Galax HOF RAM? Below is clearly better value, or you can even get the 8pack if you want to feel like you're using the best stuff for basically same price...

Yeah, 27" would be spot on for me, could go slightly bigger but not fussed, I don't run multi screens either, 1 is enough for me on my desk. Some awesome spec builds here tho, lots to look into

I thought the true HOF ram were white PCB like geil dragons, not black like sold above :(

But people will pay extra for theme or brand

14 latency and 3200 MHz. Any particular reason for a meaningless hate? You give inferior modules with 16 latency and 3000 MHz.

The Galax HOF is my memory of choice, the one that I would use and the one that I will recommend.

Thats a Freesync screen and Nvidia card dude.

Freesync for AMD

Gsync for Nvidia.

Theres no way you need a GTX1080Ti for a 1080 resolution screen, no way what so ever, your at £2000 and you havent even got a case or storage selected yet.

I think you've been bamboozzled by a lot of unnecessary stuff.

Its pretty hard to not pick expensive stuff when you dont have any idea on whats best bang for buck but i think you nailed it this time.
I prefer a darker pc so first one looks the best to me,ill keep this in mind when time to order,not in a desperate hurry,can hang on till into jan 2018

Can the cpu and gpu be OCed at all ?
 
Yes both CPU and cards can be overclocked in both builds.

Obviously the board in the 2nd spec is a higher grade, thus in theory should be better at overclocking, but not all CPUs are created equal (thats why pro overclockers go though 10/20/30+ CPUs to find the best one) and so you could have the greatest board in the world but a sucky CPU.

Come 2018 Z370 might already be on its last legs as Z390 comes early next year.
 
does go over, and going from your i7 to ryzen 1600/1700- CPU wise your not going to see much of a change if you put old or new card in both systems . You will see gains with i7 coffee but not hugely - not yet anyways till games use more threads and then ryzen will get a boost to. Overclocking it to 4.8Ghz will get though :D

heads up, you can get an Aorus GTX 1080 11Gbps card for £520- with the core overclocked to 2.1Ghz and ram to 12Gbps- 1070 Ti cant touch it! :)

cooler and case change and lwoer grade PSU could bring the price down

Ryzen reversion is out Q1 next year - so in theory you could get CPU and drop it into your board if they release it with a lot higher clock and ram support speed! though recommend stulids white build for that, aorus board has better VRMs to handle the increase load!
havent heard anything yet on next intel chipset or whether or not LGA 1151 will be used or tweaked like current z370 is - though they tend to run 2 gens on any given socket- whether new or tweaked
 
Seems like I should wait till next quarter and see what that z390 is like, in the meantime, what's the best way for me to raise my cpu from stock, using the bios or gigabyte mobo app? Nothing mental, I could go for 4ghz o'clock, I have the corsair aio at full pelt all the time anyway so not fussed about the fan noise, could be a good starting point to dip my toe into the dark act of OCing.

Haha, I'm so undecided, I'll wait till I get the cash in my hand then take the plunge, will definitely get my son involved in the build as well.
I stress putting it together but get a sense of achievement when the power button is pressed for the first time. .
Really appreciate all the input lads, as ever, this forum and the users are super helpful and I really should post/get involved more, I may actually learn a few things.

I still wire the **** power leads from case to mob wrong! every ****** time too! wife laughs at me . son knows where the PSU goes in a case- 27 months old :D never to young
