Upgrade - New Processor and Mobo

Hello!

My motherboard has just packed in completely, so I'm looking to upgrade for about £300.

I currently a i5 2500k, 12gb DDR 3 ram, gtx 670 and a 750w corsair psu.

I'm looking to be able to play battlefield 4 on high settings with a good frame rate! Maybe even Max!

Any suggestions?

I would be very tempted by the Z87X-D3H at a extra tenner although it doesn't come with a free cooler.

I was in a similar situation but performance to upgrade to Haswell from SB just isnt worth the premium.

Pick up a 1155 board on the marketplace and wait for next gen with 'hopefully' appreciable performance gains.

I just upgraded my 2500k to a 2700k for more threads specifically for X-Rebirth (X-Series being a cpu whore thus far). Couldnt see the justification in spending £300-400 on Haswell when performance gains just dont justify the outlay.

Just out of interest, why did you order Gigabyte instead of Asus? I thought that Asus made the best mobo's?

i think asus are just more user friendly. and its down to personal opinion aswell dont forget.

just like people go for intel over amd and visa versa.

Both are good but Gigabyte has a UK RMA service, I have always used Gigabyte were possible

Installing the new mobo, is it just a case of removing the old one, memorising the positions of the cables and plugging them back in respective to the new one? I'm a bit of a noob with this! Also, is it with to load in all the RaM I have straight away with the new mobo or have one stick, see if it works and put the rest in later?

As a Haswell owner I would have told you not to bother.

But you have the correct socket for broadwell so you are set for a couple of years at least even if the Haswell is not much better than the 2500k
