Hi,

As the title hints at me and my wife are thinking of upgrading from a Nikon H60 to something new. We have had the H60 since 2009 and it has gone through a lot including a round the world trip. Probably has over 20k shutter count.

I have been looking at the Nikon D5200 or D5300. Is it worth getting a full lens kit or just the body as I can use the 2 lenses I have from the D60??

Thanks

Rob

I would go body only. Dxo cameras are the upgrades to the D60. You might consider the D7000, more advanced focusing, metering, better body, slightly more pro orientat

I think the 18-55 kit lens that came with the D60 is the same as the one they're putting in current kits. There is a new one in the pipe linee but I don't think it's shipping yet. I'd go body only.

DP how does the D300 standup today,a friend has one in mint which he offered me for 450?

You can get excellent condition D300's with under 20k shutter count for £330 with a 6 month warranty from MPB photographic. Hell, you can get a D7000 for £429.

The D300 is ok but it's sensor is a bit long in the tooth by today's standard, everything else about it still stacks up well but at £450 its way too expensive, that's D7000 money plus some change.

MPB have got loads of them in all with 6 months warranty for far less than that.

I'd be looking at a D7000 if you've got that kind of money. it honestly a no brainer.

The auto focys, metering, WB, body ergonomics, speed etc are about the best there is. However the sensor us getting old now so a lot depends on what you shoot shoot. The D800 is equal or beer in all rrgards, with a much better sensor but it has a smaller buffer.

If you already have lenses then probably just the body would do

The d7000 has better dynamic range and , ISO and image quality is generally improved over the d300

The d300 has more focus points

For the money id get a d7000

Its a massive saving on Digital Rev, what do people think about grey imports?

It's fine if your camera doesn't break, if it does though be prepared for it to be not as simple as dealing with a UK supplier.
Also any reason you are going for the D5300 instead of the D5200?

-No OLF.
-Better film Capabilities
-Wifi/Gps intergration
-better future proofing

Why?

Thats fine then if those are worth the extra to you.

I just wondered because a photographic tool it's really no better than the D5200 unless you see yourself using Wifi / GPS a lot.

cant comment on the camera but recently used digital rev (canon 700d) and ordered fri night and it arrived Tuesday at 8am .. Very impressed
