Hi,
I'm currently using a GTX670 2gb which has been a real trooper the last few years at 1080p and still runs most stuff pretty well.
But I'll be running 2560 x 1440 resolution soon and it doesn't like that so much, not to mention 2Gb vRam doesn't go that far nowdays.
Long term probably gonna get new build from scratch, but for now thinking of maybe upgrading to this R9 390 or this GTX 970 as they have good offers at the moment. So the questions are:
1) would this be significant upgrade boost at 1440? I assume yes.
2) which one to go for? I've always liked Nvidia, and frankly trust their build and software and features more. But the AMD has 8gb - which I guess would be more future proof and leaves open 4K monitor options in the future (if I go crazy and decide I have money to burn)
Also 970 can have coil whine?. My PC is in dining room so excess noise would be a pain.
3) will my current set up actually support either of these? I think so but haven't been keeping up with the latest. Specs are below.
I might stretch up to £300 region if there would be significant advantage doing so.
current specs:
i5-3570K @3.4 (can be overclocked to 4.4 if I need to/can be bothered)
gigabyte z77-d3h
8gb DDR @ 1600MHz
Corsair 750w PSU
