Upgrade on a budget your help needed.

BUDGET £300.

Hi All, hope you can help

Use my pc for mainly surfing the internet but I do play the occasional game of Q4 and HL2 which id like the pc to play a little better.

I haven’t upgraded for a while and don’t really know what’s good anymore

my current system is:-

250mhz PSU (which I guess I will have to upgrade)
Abit BH7 motherboard
2.4ghz P4
1 gig of ram
radeon 9800 pro
audigy2zs soundcard

I don’t really wanna spend much more than 300 really and then maybe get a gfx card at a later date.
 
Whats the ram? DDR400?..... i'm sure you carry that across to something new....

Best upgrade i can see what be to grab a new cpu, mobo and graphics card.

You will be pressed on that budget but i think you'll be able to make on ok upgrade on that. Like the forums seem to echo at the moment though, give it a little while and the AM2 cpu's should drop in price quite a bit, then you should be able to grab a better upgrade for your money, which would be better since you have quite a tight budget.

However your 250W PSU might not be enough for the newer graphics cards.

If you really can't extend the budget, perhaps waiting for the price drop would be better because you could possibly save a little more cash and grab a PSU to. Would be better to save a little more then skimp on the other parts because you need a PSU to.
 
This is a little over budget and is s939, but gives a decent cpu, decent gfx, sli ready mobo and a new case with a 400W psu.
