My mobo died today, so I'm either going to RMA it, or take the opportunity to upgrade. Specs-

DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000
Leadtek GeForce 7600 GS SILENT
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA2
Sony DWG120A 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W
Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro

Do you think it's worth taking the opportunity getting a new AM2 mobo, also upgrade to a 2 core AMD CPU. Of course I was also thinking if I'm doing that it might make sense to upgrade the RAM to DDR2.
As you can see the upgrade option starts to get a little pricey. Is it worth it do you think? I was looking at this bundle - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-068-OK&groupid=701&catid=339&subcat=

I'm having trouble justifying spending money on new mobo/cpu/ram and need some persuasion/discouragement.

Thanks

i'd go for :

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-011-AK&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=

and match it with a 2180 processor.

If you want to spend £200 like that bundle i'd go for something like :

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) £29.99 (£35.24)

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £69.99 (£82.24)

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £46.99
(£55.21)

Sub Total : £146.97
Shipping : £8.25
VAT : £27.16
Total : £182.38

Try and rma the board is my suggestion, if you can do that then you can consider getting a dual core and possibly changing your graphics card to something more modern.

That would last you for quite some time, until you have money for a real upgrade

Can I ask why?

p.s. Telford is just up the road from me!

aside from the rma getting sorted so you can carry on using it with the 3700 you have i just think the asrock board is neatest and cheapest option.

i've had asrock's as cross over boards before and i've been very happy with them, but if you're spending decent amount (like the bundle) it makes sense to get a decent mobo that doesnt have to juggle ddr/ddr2 pci-e/agp.

OK, I think I'm going to upgrade and use my old bits, and the RMA'd mobo to build a media PC for the lounge. I Reckon the spec I'm going to go for is -

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition
Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe
GeIL 2GB PC2-6400c4

What do you think?

Just had a thought...... I can't seem to find out if the above mobo has a memory devider. Anyone know? Ta.

I am on a budget. Also I have an Nvidia graphic card, and the only AM2+ mobos I found are crossfire ready.
