I need help/opinions on my upgrade path as i'm just getting confused at the moment. Bear with me and if you can't be bother with a mini essay I recommend leaving now
In a perfect world I'd just wait for the 5D replacement to come out, whether that be a 3D, 6/7D or 5D II, whatever it is, I want a compact full frame slr, that much I'm certain.
Now that's fine and I'm happy to wait but the spanner in the works is that my sister is getting married in September which I'd like a new camera for.
My 10D has been great for the last few years but it's just got to the point where it is so slow it frustrates me, also the viewfinder was damaged in a skiing incident (lol) so there is a black line through the digital read out and the top of the view finder is cropped a tiny bit, it's still useable just a bit annoying.
The biggest factor though is that it's now approaching or beyond 40,000 shutter actuations (i'm not sure exactly but i've taken at least 35,000 shots with it and it already had 3-5k on it when I got it and it could have been round the clock) so it may happily click on until 100,000 or it could fail tomorrow, or on the wedding day which is the concern.
Lens choice is another factor that is screwing up my decision making. I want to make a move to fast primes, 35mm f/1.4L, 50mm f/1.4, 135mm f/2L and my existing 70-200 F/4L will cover me for everything I do. problem is they will not suit me at all on a crop body.
I'm just really not keen on spending £800-1000 on a 5D that will be replaced almost immediately, most likely at Photokina, and I dont want to lose money upgrading straight away to the new model. 40D as a cheap stepping stone would be great but the new lenses won't be ideal and I won't be using any of my current lenses at the wedding as I loathe them (sigma 10-20, canon 50mm 1.8, canon 28-105mm).
What do I do? What would you do? I'm not going to be buying anything until August but I just wanted to get my ideas out
Sorry for the essay, any input appreciated.
