Hi all

Just need some opinions on if I should get a completely new machine or is it worth upgrading what I got. Mainly for gaming.

Details are -

ASUS Formula blitz | Q6600 b3 @ 2.4ghz | OCZ 2048MB DDR2 PC8800 Gold Edition | WD RAPTOR 76GB & 320gb Hitachi | 512MB XFX HD4850 DDR5 PCI-E | Thermaltake Big Typhoon | XP

I think I should probably hold back a while till maybe middle or end of next year but just wanted to get some general feedback.

Areas I'm thinking are memory ( 4gb ) and going for windows 7 64bit

Thanks

4GB RAM and Windows 7 64 bit are very good upgrades for your system.

However, If you are mainly gaming I would suggest a new graphics card and a CPU overclock (if you haven't already) first.

I've never tried to overclock so I tend to run away from that ( I could try to overclock but if i've never done it before it would be interesting ), what ram would you suggest I get for such system ?

I'm also trying to weigh the cost of upgrade over new system in say a years time, should I spend 300 - 400 quid upgrading now and then going for a new system in a years time.

would this lot be a safe choice if I choose to hold out on a complete replacement next year -

- Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 XMS2 PC2-8500C5
- KFA2 GeForce GTX 460 LTD OC 1024MB GDDR5
- windows 7 64bit

Thanks

Frankly if you're talking about next year, I'd consider my components closer to that time taking into account new product releases, price fluctuations etc.
