Okay guys,

So upon getting my new job (as a senior web architect woo!) I decided to celebrate with either a new PC or an upgrade.

My pc is starting to date a little but I'm able to get BF3 currently maxed out one screen at 1920 x 1080 at about 75 fps.

Ideally I would like to get a higher resolution monitor so I'll be doing some research into that. I'm personally leaning towards the new i7's and two 690's. As the core components of my system. However, here is my current build.

i7 - 2600k oc @ 4.2Ghz
8Gb Corsair Avenger (Can't remember the latencies)
GeForce GTX 580 2Gb

This machine has served me fine what is approaching the last two years. But naturally I would like some more juice, power.

Absolute budget would be £2700 either for an upgrade or for a new system build. I can salvage the old SSD's and HDD's if upgrading.

What is your current mobo?
Or can you post your full system spec including Psu and cooler.

I would look at keeping your 2600k, not sure you would gain much in a 3770k in terms of gaming. OC the 2600k a bit more, get a decent cooler if you don`t already have one.
Besides gaming, what else will the system be used for?

I'd wait a few months and buy a new system. With that sort of budget you'd have a lot of fun when Haswell comes out... :D

Wait for Haswell like above said, that amount of cash will get you a beast system.

Like really, probably looking at dual cards and even possibly a good water cooling setup.

Thanks for the replies, looked into Haswell seems it's coming out around June / July time.
Might give that a bit of a wait then. Idleman - the Mobo was an Asus P8P67 motherboard. Custom cooling solution, so in theory I could probably ramp up the CPU frequency a little more. The PSU was a XFX Pro 850W.

I only use it for gaming and development so really a few VM's, IDE's such as PHPStorm, etc.

But yes, I'll wait until Haswell comes out then I'll pick up a system then I think. Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Check out the 2011 socket, a little more expensive but offers more performance, especially as you are using VMs.

That is what I thought, keep the 2600k and upgrade the mobo. Save the £300 or whatever the 4770k will cost and spend it elsewhere.

Just found this comparison.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/581/Intel_Core_i7_i7-2600K_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-4770K.html

Just so happens that my other PC died earlier today. So I figured I'd get a new one of those. Picked up a watercooled Titan and watercooling kit. new CPU + mobo for the new PC. Seems I'll have a little bit of "switching around" to do when the new chipset comes out. All turned out rather well in the end!

Cheers guys!
