Hmm, from the sounds of it, he is the kind of gamer that is easily pleased/occupied and just plays one game to death?

Maybe it is better to not buy anything until there's a clear need.

Alternatively, a cheap upgrade like a RX 570 and Xeon E3-1240 v2 would be under £100 and be plenty capable with older games.

What about an Intel Arc based GPU like the B580 at £240 with an upgrade to a Xeon E3-1240 v2?

VRAM could be an issue if his kid wants to play GTA6.

Or, a used RX 580 or any older AMD GPU would be dirt cheap too and have 10+gigs of VRAM.

Yeah, the Arc is a nice card, but unfortunately without rebar they perform like dog poo. If GTA6 is the aim, I doubt there's anything we can do with this PC, so I was just suggesting an alternative cheapo option.
