Upgrade or replace?

Hi guys, sorry to revive this thread. I'm about to buy the processor 5600x, and I'm seeing a couple of options and speeds. I can see 3.7 or 4.6. The cores seem to be the difference. Can anyone bail me out? I'm likely missing something obvious.

The 5600 non-x has a base clock of 3.5 and boost clock of 4.4. The 5600X has a base clock of 3.7 and a boost clock of 4.6.

Edit: RE: 5700X choice, for gaming only and upgrade in a few years: 5600. If you do productivity work and don't want to upgrade for e.g. 4-5 years, 5700X

Aah, got you. So they're listing either speed. I'm thinking now of getting the 5700x now for a bit more grunt and hopefully future proofing. Is that worth the extra dosh?

Sorry, last question, would the ab350 board throttle a 5700x?

Edit: Actually I think I'd go for the 5700x if it's worth it? Anyone got an opinion on what would be the best choice
Answering both of this points

1) what? Edit: yes, ghz
2) only you can decide what’s best for you at the end of the day. Either the 5700X or 5800X will work, the 5700X is cheaper and performs almost the same as the 5800X

5700X is better than the 5600X

F52g bios supports 5000 series cpus, Gigabyte site is not the clearest and you may need some incremental updates to bios before you goto the most recent but yes your mobo will work with a 5600 , which is my recommendation. Your ram is also good so when you have bios updated and new cpu you can get it to run at its proper speeds.

Well worth a watch and should show you what to expect.
Just updating my board after reading this. Thanks very much. I really didn’t think the board would support the 5 series CPUs. Still rocking a 1700 lol

We cannot be certain. 5700x is an 8 core part whilst the 5600 is a lower clocked 6 core part. I have a 5800x(8 core) and a 5900x(12 core) and when fully loaded they use 120w and 180w respectively, 15w per core when running at 4.8ghz. The 5700x will use slightly less power than the 5800x whilst the 5600 will use slightly less than 15w per core so sub 80w. IMHO the 5600 is the best choice for this mobo when upgrading.

I hope you guys get many more years use out of these updated systems. Less ewaste is good for the planet and for all of us in the long run.
