Upgrade Path From 5800?

Hi All,

Currently have an AMD 5800 Graphics Card (bought eighteen months or so ago) and a single Dell U2410 Monitor.

I'm thinking of adding a second U2410 and upgrading my graphics card - what is the logical upgrade path now from a 5800, I'm a bit out of touch?!

Thanks,

Paul.

Which 58xx? There's a bit of performance spread from the 5830 to 5870. Getting a second one second hand for CF would be the cheapest boost, assuming your board can do it and you have ample power/cooling

I'm in the same boat.. Love my 5850 but I think it's time to upgrade with a 7xxx series when they get released (if price isn't too much)... If they are then maybe look to pick up a bargain 69xx or 2 for those who upgrade to 7xxx..

Would love to crossfire but I think I'd need a new psu as my650w prob won't have enough juice.. Other downside is the crossfire support drivers... With new games they tend to have all sorts of issues

Certainly a next gen card.

The 5850 is a great card. Didn't see much difference from a 5850 to a 6970 that realt warranted the price.

depends what game you playing really

some games youll notice nice improvement some older games you wont.

dirt 3 for me is twice as fast with my 6950@6970

there are probably only 3 cards currently in production that you could upgrade to and notice a real difference. 6990, 580, 590, and a second card in crossfire would bring you that level of performance at a much cheaper price point. The next gen 7000 series you will want to be looking at will be the 7950/7970, these look like coming in at above 580 performance, but maybe not by much. With your current card I would think that the deciding factor for you would be if you need more than 1gb of vram.

hi
overclock that sucker . i rum mine '950/1200'1.2v for gaming but ive had it@1037/1250 when b/marking .you will notice a nice jump in performance then see what the 7 series brings to the table .
cheers
