I'm looking at an upgrade but not sure which part to do. Only have £200-£250 to spend and am looking at the graphics or cpu.

Currently I have an AMD X2 6000 and an BGF 8800 GTS 640mb card. I was under the impression that the cpu may be the bottle neck but I'm not sure.

SO between the two what do you recommend?

AMD Athlon X2 6000
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
GeIL 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA-II 16MB
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
Motherboard (will update tonight)
22" Samsung Monitor

uhm...there's not much you can really do with 250 pounds, unless you update your gpu to a gtx 285 or similar, but like you said your cpu will still be the bottleneck.

Then again, you could upgrade to an AM3.

Like this maybe?

What about keeping the ram, and just getting a new processer and motherboard?

Maybe this:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 6MB-cache (1333FSB)
Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 Intel X48

don't go for socket 775, it's a dead socket now. Go AMD for futureproofing, unless of course you want to go socket 1366, but unfortunately that's out of budget.
