Upgrade possible?

Hi,

I am new to the forums, so i hope i am posting in the correct area.

I built my first gaming rig almost 3 years ago now, but am slowly starting to see a dip in my FPS with current gaming titles (CoD:WaW in particular). I dont really want to spend loads on a completely new system now, as i head back to university in September so the machine will lay idle for about 9 months. My current build consists of:

OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2
2 x Kingston 1GB DDR 400MHz/PC3200
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 Nvidia NF4 ATX
AMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin 1mb L2cache Retail Boxed
Western Digital WD2500JS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATA2/300 8MB Cache
Pioneer DVR-110D 16x DVD±RW Dual Layer Internal IDE (Black) - OEM
MSI Nvidia GeForce 7800GT 256mb PCI-Express Dual DVI + TV Out

I know most of them are out of date, but if i could squeeze a few more FPS out of a new graphics card just to last me until September it would be brilliant.

Is it possible for me to do this and would it be worthwhile, as i could save the money i have now and build a brand new system in May next year?

Budget: £50 - £100 (if it can be done upgrading just my graphics card)
Monitor: 19" Samsung - 1280 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 resolution
Use: Mid - High End Gaming (Call of Duty mainly)

Are there any other parts i could upgrade reasonably cheap?

put a 4670 (new) or 8800GT (2nd hand) in that rig and enjoy a good boost in framerates.

also try to find a skt939 althlonX2 as cheaply as possible if you do a lot of multitasking

alternatively get a 4850 for jsut over £100 (~120ish), this, if you dont change monitors should last you for a while and you can put it in your pc you build in may next year although it wont be as powerful as cards available then

Upgrade the graphics card as that is the biggest limiting factor.

If you want an increase in general speed/performance look to get a 2nd hand X2 with a high clock.

Ok,

I have been looking for a X2 Socket 939 for a while, but i think i am right in saying they were discontinued a while back now, so are very hard to find!

Would the 9600GT be a reasonable card compared to the 8800GT or the 4670?

9600GT compares to 8800GT i think,

8800GT is better then 4670

Would two more 1 GB sticks of RAM aid in anyway or you think it would be more beneficial opting for the 9800GT instead of a 9600GT?

I have also found the BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-080-BG&tool=3) its out of stock but would i see a difference between the above cards and this one?
