A week ago I bought a new CPU (AMD FX), MOBO and after market CM 412s CPU cooler.

Knocked it together today but running into a stupid issue. I switch the PC on, it comes on for a few seconds, fans whirring and lights flashing then it cuts out. This takes about 5-7 second. I recorded a video of it to explain better.

Any ideas ?

is everything wired and plugged in correctly? especially the additional 4 or 8 pin to MB.

everything installed properly? especially the heatsink

are you using the same HDD with OS install or have you reinstalled it? - although in that case you should be able to get to BIOS at least.

I could settle for not having plugged it in correctly. I really don't upgrade often so not too skilled in installing new hardware but I've always managed.

The CPU obviously went in easily. The fan stumped me for a bit until I realised that you had to turn the backplate the different way around than you would've for an Intel CPU. The instructions are terrible.

One thing that worried me is that when I applied the thermal paste and stuck the fan on, there was some spillage as a bit squeezed out from under the fan but I cleaned it up.

I'll take some pics now of all cables I plugged in just to check with you guys.

I've another quick question. I've done a fresh Windows install. My old Windows install now sits on my hard drive as Windows.Old. Can I delete that or would it break something?

Btw, I'm delighted with the new hardware. I can highly recommend it if someone is thinking about an upgrade
