Upgrade question?

Im currently on 2gb ddr2 lol

Asus p5w dh deluxe

Im on E2200 cpu overclocked to 2865mhz

8600gt and 2 x 300gb sata drives.

Ive been well and truly out of the scene for ages now.

Was thinking of just getting a q6600 for a cheap upgrade but there not that cheap lol...

Would i be better off going newer like the i5 range and going for low end cpu and ram but a good mainboard that i can upgrade as money allows?

Thoughts please as i better bring myself into the new age!

the I3 is better than he Q6600 in most test's so that would be a good start on a upgraed

Yeah a good idea might be to go for an i3 + 1156 mobo, ddr3 is going pretty cheap nowadays and you can upgrade the graphic card when you get more funds.
 
Come up with the spec below using the new i3 cpu, this would allow to upgrade later, put HDD and gpu in.

Ive been used to asus boards for years but dont mind changing to the ones above:)

Would i get much of a overclock out of a budget chip?

EDIT i also dont mind changing over to the amd route? if its better value for money?

I really have been out of the loop for like 6 years!

If you get an i3 you'll need a new motherboard and ram too.

Getting a Q6600 would be much cheaper, so it just depends on how much you're willing to spend.
