Upgrade question?

I have a gigabyte 670 WF

It's been great but I have the itch, I really want a custom 290 but it's taking forever and they seem expensive. I have a 3570k at 4.3ghz now do I do the following, I could spend the dosh or I could save some, don't wanna wait

280x toxic £275
290 ref £330
780 £380-400

i'd rule the 280 out straight away, not much point there.

I'd say 780 non ref as you are coming from a WF 670, I think the fan noise from a ref 290 will annoy you.

it would but not worth the cost involved for the performance increase you would get, its just a rebadged 7970.


the 290 and 780 are similar in performance, 780 just edges ahead but it does run a lot cooler and quieter like mentioned earlier

I agree with Nick. Going to a 280X would feel like going to a 680 and 5-10% gains would feel a little Meh IMO.

I would go with a custom 780. Just looked and the MSI gaming 780 is out of stock but could be worth ordering or asking in CS when they will be back in stock, as at that price, that is a great buy.
