PC I build 4 years ago...

- MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz
- MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67
- Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB)
- OCZ StealthXStream 2 700W
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB (storage drive)
- Crucial MX100 512GB (boot and game drive)

It's pretty damn old now. I want to play Fallout 4 on it. I think the first thing I need to upgrade is the GPU. The 6950 isn't good enough to run F4 from what I've seen. I'm looking at the 390 / 970 range of cards, and I just wondered if anyone can point me particularly at one or the other? OR if there's an alternative I should consider?

What resolution do you game in?

Both the 970 and the 390 are good choices (I have the MSI GTX 970) but for higher resolutions you might want the extra memory on the 390. I've been very happy with my 970 but if I was buying again today, on balance I'd probably go for the 390.

You don't need to upgrade anything else at all actually, just a card and you're sitting top of the gaming pile again.

I would say the HD6950 would run it OK (about the same as a gtx750ti?) - but if money's no option within reason, I would go for the 8GB 390.
