Hi OCUK,

With all release of new GPU's and other exciting stuff I was wondering if I needed to upgrade my system in anyway. I'm currently running the below;

  • MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
  • Ryzen 5 3600
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3200Mhz
  • Gigabyte 1660 Super
  • Artic Freezer 34 eSports DUO
  • Samsung EVO 1tb SSD
Thanks in advance

Graphics card upgrade would net you the biggest gain, especially if you're aiming for 1440p.

Next upgrade would be CPU, and you can either look at the Ryzen 5000 series, which would work in your board (I think MSI are supporting all of their B450 boards), or wait for the next gen/end of 2021. This wouldn't be a relatively small gain compared to the GPU upgrade, given your current system.

Things are chaotic at the moment, so if you're not in a rush then wait until early next year.

Hold on for the GTX3050/3060. They should be a real nice upgrade from your 1660 Super. Otherwise you have a pretty solid PC, the 3600 is still a good CPU so no need to upgrade that. I would just get a new graphics card to allow you to go to 1440p.

Going to be look gold dust to begin with by the looks of things, would it be worth holding out for AMD’s new cards?
Only way to know is to wait for the reviews and the availability of the new AMD cards. So far it looks like nVidia still has an advantage in ray tracing, while AMD has better price/performance ratio for regular rasterization games.
