Upgrade ram... Pointless?

Basically, my gf wants to upgrade her ram, she's got some AWFUL stuff, 4GB, straight out of Compton yo.

Anyway, she want's 8GB but can't quite afford it, so I was going to sell her mine for £30 and then upgrade...
I mainly game, that's it.

Does your board support 2400mhz RAM, as it may downclock them anyway?

I'm a mean ol' fart haha. And £30 is £30... I don't have £50 to splash around on new ram right now.
