Hello folks, i recently got the girlfriend playing world of warcraft (for my sins) and i was looking at pairing up some of my spares with some cheap new parts to run the game.

I currently have a psu, hard drive and radeon 6870 and looking at mATX or mITX form factors so that it can be moved relatively easily.

In short i need recommendations for the cheapest possible way to game at 1080p. So a combo of motherboard/ram/cpu.

My personal preference would be to go 1150 with the pentium G3258 and a cheap h81 motherboard but would like to hear some other people's opinions.

Thanks :)

ideally for the 3 things under £200. But it seems possibe to go in the £130-150 region. As far as i'm aware World of warcraft prefers better single threader performance which has made me think of staying on the intel route but i'm willing to be shown wrong.

You are right.

WOW does prefer CPU core speed.

1600mhz ram as that is all the chipsets allow.

thread here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18611462 - that lists peoples success with this cpu and overclocking on what boards.

i managed to get 4.7ghz out of my g3258 on a asus h81m-plus mobo. i was surprised and opens up a world where you don't need to spend £100 on a mobo to clock a £45 chip which would kind of make it naff.

i read this: http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/overclocking-pentium-g3258-on-h81-b75-h87-h97-chipsets-a-60.html before I made the jump as I wasn't too sure if it would even be possible!

I think the H81-Plus with the right BIOS can overclock the CPU too. The stock should have refreshed so it also should ship with the correct BIOS so the CPU should be supported, but don't quote me on that one. With a few more motherboard features/different chipset (out of stock though :( );
