I am currently looking to upgrade this system

Motherboard: Asus M5a78l
Chip: AMD FX-6100
Graphics: SAPPHIRE AMD R9 280
Ram: 8gb Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB DIMM Memory

Cant remember the PSU (will upgrade if needed), I have no SSD (don't feel the need)

Looking to spend ~£400-500

How should I spend my money?

Thanks

Have added a ssd anyway, in case you change your mind. ;)

Still leaves enough for a psu if you do need to get another.

650w is more than enough for a single gpu system. (7yr warranty)

850w if you deside you want crossfire/sli. (10yr warranty)

Thanks for the info, that had been one I was looking at previously, is it worth getting more ram? and the graphics card should be ok for a while or worth looking at changing that soonish?

Thanks

That's a good spec, but if you go Z97 you can reuse your RAM. (Although starting from scratch, it may be better getting the latest tech)

Superflower do make excellent PSUs, but i personally don't like the leds and multi coloured connectors.

Good shout on the cooler though as you will need one for overclocking. (which you have to do, not optional :D)

will be needing new RAM as old mobo, processor and ram are going to upgrade an older pc. was just looking at fans when I saw your post.

looking at the gigabyte z170xp-sli bundle (unless there is a better option for similar price?)

what sort of performance increase should i expect from this?

Thanks

yes, i would go for that from what we have suggested so far, i could make one for the budget, but doubt id have found much of an alternative.

edit: without going for a cheaper psu this is seem the best i could come up with especially if you didnt need a new hdd and your ram must be old as OC dont stock it otherwise you could save money on buying a second stick over a kit.
