Upgrade Soon. Is there any point in me doing so (W7/Android)?

I've currently got an HTC Desire, which I like, however I've had it for 2(?) years now. Am happy using Android.

I recently had a look at a friends W7 mobile (a Samsung Omnia I think?) and really like the speed/slickness of the interface - but it looks to me that its built purely around Facebook (albeit they are providing the interface for other social apps in the future).

Given that I use my phone for phoning and email and not much else other than occasional browsing should I just stick with my Desire on a rolling contract, or get a better Sim only deal (I only pay £20/month now so a better deal might be harder to find)?

Any W7 mobile users out there that can sell it a bit more other than being a social phone o/s?

Is it possible you think it's based around FB because that's what your friend spends most of his time using it for? It's a good shout for a first release but all the current wp7 handsets are old. Mango is filling in a lot of the gaps (this is the next release of the OS) and I'd wait for that to see it it turns out OK.

It is very possible Mysrha, I only had 10 minutes or so to play about with it. And I do have to say I liked the interface.

From that link:
No system-wide file manager
No videocalling
Limited third-party apps availability
No Bluetooth file transfers
No USB mass storage mode
No multitasking
No copy/paste
Too dependent on Zune software for computer file management and syncing
No music player equalisers
No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser
No sign of free Bing maps Navigation so far
No DivX/XviD video support
No internet tethering support
New ringtones available only through the Marketplace
Swapping memory card requires hard reset; cards not readable by computer

Are these all features that don't exist yet or more importantly won't exist?

Copy and paste has been added, multitasking will be added very soon. Microsoft are very much in the mode of Apple so i very much doubt, bluetooth file transfers, DivX/Xvid support, 'free' tethering like in Android will ever be supported.

It seems stupid to me when nearly all of these were available on win6.1 :(

As mentioned in the other thread that those things were brought up in you can tether the Omnia7 quite easily. The ringtones issue is sorte din Mango as well.

Most don't have memory cards/expandable storage anyway so the memory card "issue" isn't an issue... whichever way you want to take that. :p

I think if you want something on a cheapish contract then get an Omnia 7, if you don't mind spending more and waiting then wait until at least the end of this week and see what MS's presentation has to say about new phones (about half a dozen may well be be released including a GSII type and maybe the Nokia phones).

It's certainly not facebook oriented though, although MS have put a lot of the social side into it.

It's not ready yet, windows phone 7, I've recently gone back to Android from an LG optimus 7.

I don't think it'll be as good as Android even with the upcoming Mango update, either.

Platypus, I am in a similar boat. I have been looking at Three sim only contracts in conjunction with a TopCashBack cashback.

It'll work out at just under £9pm, which is excellent value I feel!

£9p/m is great, but I've been on three before and was very unhappy with their customer service.

:(
In my other thread, there hasn't been many complaints so far.
You can get a smaller cash back deal with Talk Mobile as well
