Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800 (8 cores)
RAM: 32 GB Ballistix RAM (2x16GB)
Storage: 2 SSDs
Power Supply: GamePower GP-650 PC Power Supply
GPU: (I forgot the model.)

This PC stopped working while I was removing the NVMe drive.
I took it to a service center, and they found that both the CPU and motherboard were faulty.
Now, I want to switch to an Intel setup.
Buying a new CPU + motherboard will be expensive for me, but I need a stable system.
I can't upgrade my current laptop because it has an onboard CPU. So i cant change parts. Only ram upgrade but upgrading i3 ram is not enough.

I'm thinking of switching to Intel i5-13400 for that desktop:
Intel i5-13400 Specs

For the motherboard, is something like ASUS Prime H610M-K D4 good enough?
ASUS Prime H610M-K D4 on Amazon

or to gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4 over ASUS Prime H610M-K D4
becayse
    • Better VRM Design: Ensures stable power delivery, especially under load.
    • Enhanced Connectivity: More USB ports and support for faster storage options.
    • Future-Proofing: Better support for upcoming hardware upgrades.

If i move to ryzen 7000x for exampl,e it is double price of i5 13400 and also i need to change ram to dd5 i think.

What I use the PC for:

  • Keeping lots of Chrome tabs open, researching, switching
  • Watching videos, listening to music
  • Using ChatGPT
  • Light gaming (Dota 2 — no heavy games)
  • Occasional coding with IntelliJ (not very heavy projects)

Currently, I'm on a laptop with an i3 and 16 GB RAM, and it still handles most things.
With 32 GB RAM on the new setup, I think it will be more than enough for everything I need.

The 13400 is a decent enough CPU for mixed usage (at the right price), but if it was me, I'd just get the 12600K (also mildly better performing, despite having the same P&E core count), because you're guaranteed not to have a potentially problematic Raptor Lake die (13400 can be either die).

Note that the 12600K doesn't come with a cooler. 12600KF, 13400F and 14400F do not have integrated graphics.

The H610M-K is fine for i3 or entry-level i5, though I'd be wary of upgrading the CPU with that board. The DS3H is better and very useful to have 2x M.2 slots. 1x M.2 slot is really not enough nowadays.

I assume you're aware that this is not an upgrade?

My thoughts exactly, I wouldn't touch that PSU with a barge pole.

E: I have to ask, have you tried a quality PSU with your pc or just relied on the word of this 'service centre'?
LAtest service tried with differnet psu and still did not work. Maybe psu broke the pieces. because i tried lots of times to remove cables, on off etc. I cant try because i could not find any friends who has amd.

i have gpu. YOu suggest 12600k for integrated gpu? Here it is around 50 usd more expensive than 13400. I dont know my old cooler would work.

Even if you switch to Intel, you should really get a better PSU.

So with that in mind, get the PSU first and see if your AMD kit works. (looks like a good setup let down by a bargain basement PSU)

What GPU do you have?

Please tell me you didn't remove the NVME drive while the pc was powered up because that's what it sounds like you did? If you did then no wonder it's broken, you probably fried the motherboard which then did the cpu. The drive may be toast as well. Always power down and switch off before removing anything from a pc. That abysmal psu probably wouldn't have helped either.

Since you were buying a 13400 instead of a 13400F or 14400F, I did not know what you wanted.

I dont remember. it is in service now. normal cooler witout water or something.

I did nor remove of course while on. But afterwards i tried ltots of times lke removing battery, removing cables etc maybe one of those attempts caused short cut. The service said north bridge is gone when he put some volt meters there.
