Well I've had my 2nd gen iPod for almost 3 years now... and I think it's time to get it replaced. Few reasons for this:

1) Battery life isn't that great anymore
2) I'd like to move to Apple Lossless codec for all my albums, so I need a bit more than 20Gb really
3) I like the new slimmer / lighter models

I'm currently eyeing up the new 30Gb iPod (£189). I'm not really interested in the video aspect, although I may usually occasionally. I consider it a bonus more than anything.

So a couple of questions:

1) Will the audio quality be any better than my current iPod? I assume they must have improved the built-in amp a little bit?
2) Is there anything else to consider? I would consider another make, but ONLY if the sound quality was better. I like the apple styling, and I like the software, so the only thing that could tempt me would be noticeably better sound quality with lossless tracks.

Ta :D

On a related note, you might want to look on the Apple store at the refurb section. £130 including delivery for a 30Gb iPod Video. I'm eyeing one too. :p

Is that 5th gen?

I'm also still using my 2nd Gen iPod, still going after 3.5 years, though the battery life has taken a turn for the worst too, now little over 4 hours from fully charged.

I've been tempted by the 5 / 5.5 Gen Video iPods for some time now, but rumour has it that the highly speculated touch screen iPod may make it's debut in time for Christmas. I'm also going to take a look at the Zune when it's released next month too before deciding on an upgrade.
