After 5.5 years of serving me well, my i7 920 rig is starting to fail me. Im looking to upgrade and was wondering if its a good time to do so or not. If I go for a ddr3 system will it last me as long as my old rig(given that I upgrade a bit along the way) or is it worth spending the extra £££ for a ddr4 rig?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi.

Can you list every part you have currently got and what you use the PC for?

What do you think is failing?

Hi! When I said failing I meant that its getting old, I will be giving it to my younger brother and buying myself a new one :)

The new system will mostly be used for gaming.

So you wouldn't fancy building your own computer from scratch ? :D

Being a PhD student with a part time job on the side, I really don't have the time or the patience (even though I would really love to... :( ). I prefer it being a pre built system by OcUK that I can trust and the warranty will keep my mind at peace if something does go wrong :)

You do get more for your money if you build it yourself.

But what parts do you need? tower, os, keyboard etc etc.

I have all the peripherals so all the money will be for the pc. The "Titan Envy M DC" is one of the systems I have considered, but I was wondering if it would be better to get a ddr4 system for the long run ?

Not sure a GTX970 maybe the best option at the moment what with the recently discovered memory bug that may or may not get fixed.

The i7 4790K will be faster in games due to the core speed difference and that most games dont use that many threads.

I didn't know that was possible, thank you for the input! seriously considering this now. was thinking of going for a 970, kinda worried now.

Thanks everyone for all the help, one last question; if I contact customer services with all these parts and they build it for me, would it still include the warranty from OcUK?

All the items have long warranties anyway.

The PSU is 10yrs.

The 980 is 5yrs.

The board is 5yrs

You may need to register these parts to get all this extra warranty length.
