Well was looking forward to upgrading to Haswell but after reading a lot of the comments on here I am feeling rather disappointed. What would be the best upgrade for me at the moment...I do mostly gaming with a bit of dvd burning and watching blue rays etc etc

Am I right in thinking that x79 is the most powerful set up available today?...would that be a good upgrade....or would keeping my current set up be better and just upgrading the cpu.........I know a new GPU is needed and will probably jump to a GTX670 when I decide which way to go

Any opinions most welcome

honestly id say not worth it tbh, my Lynnfield hasnt bottlenecked my single 670 and your i5 is a generation newer than mine.

My I5 is not struggling with anything....I just have a bit of a windfall coming and want something better so I want to know what people would go for if they had the choice...would it be X79 or ivybridge with the current set up or Haswell

thx

well if its an upgrade for its own sake id say gfx card is a higher priority, if you really want a processor id at least wait till haswell is out and properly benchmarked.

For your uses what you have is fine. Otherwise just go Z77/Z87 when it surfaces.

For single card gaming Z77 outperforms X79 95% of the time.

thx guys

8pack....I am thinking of getting a second gtx660...if I do are you saying that would be better served with x79 kit?

For 2 way SLI, you will see negligible difference between the platforms (Z77 and X79). Z77 also has true PCI-E 3.0 if you have an ivybridge CPU (X79 is not true PCI-E 3.0 until Ivybridge-E comes out).

For tri/quad SLI there may be advantages to X79 but there are several motherboards on Z77 which can accomodate those users (G1 Sniper 3 with a PLX chip being an example, allowing x8, x8, x8, x8). Some X79 boards allow x16, x8, x8, x8 and in some very extreme setups this can be an advantage.
