Upgrade Time Need Some Advice Please

Back on topic. I went from a 3770k to X99 5930k and haven't really noticed much improvement at all.
All the extra USB3 ports and the PCIE m2 slot is nice too but the CPU doesn't OC quite so easily as the 3770k.

What kind of overclock are you getting mate? I have my 5960x from 3ghz all the way upto 4.7ghz stable over 8 cores and the difference for me over 2600k is night and day with the software im using. For gaming there never will be that much difference until games start using more core but that time will come.

My 780 seems to have started hitting 100% an awful lot too, which is causing me to believe that my mobo is probably limiting things a bit. So I'm just sat with the choice of whether to go with a 4970k or upgrade to something newer/better. I mean tbh there's not much price difference between them. I'll probably upgrade the gfx card at some point in the future too but for now I'll keep the 780.

From what I've seen and from the people I've spoken with the 3770k does seem to have problems with wot and streaming.

Did you try changing the core affinity to remove the bottleneck from the first couple of cores?

Problem is Wot mainly relies on 1 core to do most of the work, so while for streaming I want more cores to handle all the rubbish my pc is doing I need a good single core performance so that the game runs better.
So I'm completely stuck on what to do. I do play and stream other games so I'm stuck on whether to go for more cores or better single power :(

It's choosing which processor etc to go for that's got me stuck.

From what I'm reading around the subject, getting a good bin is more important than which CPU model. e.g. A single instance of a poorly binned Haswell processor can be out-performed by a very lucky Skylake owner. Or equally visa-versa the other way around.

So I suppose OCUK's line of pre-binned CPUs might be worth looking into. Or a 2nd hand CPU where the previous owner can prove / show the max overclock it's getting.

Honestly there's almost no people these days who actually have a legitimate need for overclocked CPUs. But I suppose you might be one of them if what you say about WoT is true. Then again it might be something else, who knows / how sure can you really be?

The other thing you can do after getting a good CPU is Lapping the IHS to improve the rate of thermal transfer. Which may permit even higher overclocks and hence faster single-threaded perf. And CLU liquid metal on both sides of the IHS. And that's pretty much about things from a hardware perspective.

Well from reading up it looks like the 5820k that stulid linked can (most of the time) clock to around 4.5ghz.
Which with the more cores seems to mean it'll perform the same as a 4790k but the extra cores will help more with streaming.
A H105 should be able to keep one of those chips cooled enough.
I'll have to read up on things a bit more but it looks like that may be the cpu to get for now.
