hey guys,

The time has come for my next big upgrade. Still sporting a system I built back in 2011, with some changes of course, but it's getting towards the end of its life and it shows. Current spec can be seen in my signature.

Processors typically com with a basic cooler and some thermal paste, if not I can add those. I don't want watercooling ....

Hard disk wise, all i need is a boot SSD and I am looking at one of those 2. I've never had a PCI-e SSD, not sure how easy they are to setup and use as boot disk, but I am guessing it can't be that hard.

I have another 6TB toshiba drive I will chuck in and also an older 1080 which I don't see a reason to upgrade yet. I will also keep my 2 screens, one being G-Sync, no need to change them.

I've done some research and based on current price drops I am tempted to go for this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,163.67 (includes shipping: £15.90)

Any thoughts, other things to consider?
The system is built for software development and some gaming and hope to last me for the next decade, like my current one. I've been a long time Intel user, but I see no reason to continue with that, based on recent developments.

thank you for your reply.

interesting, why a midi case as opposed to a full tower? I always had full towers, because I like to have space when working with components and I need to see what I am doing.
good shout for motherboard as I didn't notice there was a newer one, never been an AMD specialist so there you go, easy to miss things :)

ok, so did a few modifications.

I am going to re-use my existing PSU which is a
Cougar GX V3 1050W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply (CA-025-CU)

finally settled on the pcie ssd as my main boot disk, as it has decent price and 5 years warranty.
I am still a bit torn when it comes to memory, the one I had originally is 3600 MHZ, but the viper one has life time warranty.
I also don't need the 2 extra coolers as the tower i chose comes with 2 anyway.

You maybe able to manually overclock the ram to 3600 with an increase of voltage or loosening the timings, I believe these modules are Hynix CJR. There is also a micron E die 3200/16 32gb listed kit that should overclock really well and has a lifetime warranty.

thank you, think i'll stick to the viper ones. i am not big on OC and will run everything at stock, that's probably why my components last so long :)

Jfyi that the p350x only has one case fan installed as standard. May want to consider getting another 2 if you don't already have some lying around.

I've got an extra one in my current case, I'll chuck that in. I also did not go for the extra CPU cooler, but i'll be keeping an eye on temperatures. I will not OC and if temp is going up, I'll get a better cooler.

even if you're not oc-ing, it's worth to get the aftermarket cooler as the boost clock is directly affected by the chip's temps
the hotter the chip is, the slower it'll run
you've got free shipping anyway, so you could check out the stock cooler first. but i wouldn't want to handicap the 3900x with a stock cooler tbh. 3600, 3700 yes...3900...not so much
