Need to upgrade my P4 3.2Ghz Prescott.
I mainly use my pc for surfing, watching films, a little of audio editing etc
I don’t game at all.

Will be re-using the following parts:

·HDD
·Soundcard
·Zalman Reserator 1
·DVDRW
·Fan controller
·Case Fans
·24” Ocuk TFT

Im thinking of upgrading to the following gear:

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail
PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO SCS3 SILENT 256MB DDR2 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Enermax Modu 82+ 525W EMD525AWT Modular ATX2.3
Zalman ZM-WB5 Water Cooling CPU Block
Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Comes to £300 with VAT

Any good? Overkill?

Looks good, but if you want to overclock then really an E2160/2180 will do.

Also why not the ASUS 3650pro 256Mb DDR3? Is passive cooling really that important to you?

Think i'll change for one of those E2180's.

Ye im after a pasisvely cooled GPU.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3450 Silence 256MB DDR2 TV-Out/DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (11125-00200R)

Would this car be better?

have a look at the Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L Intel P31 mobo.

i'd keep the 2200 for the sake of the difference with the 2180.

Maybe change the psu to the corsair 520W.

Also, might be worth updating the gfx card to the 512mb version.

What type of OC would i be expecting with a E2160 and that ABit IP35 and OCZ 2gb ram?

And would my current old Tagan 480W be compatible with a 775 intel system?

ok. Now the spec looks like this:

  • OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz SLI-Ready Edition Low Latency Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N800SR4GK)
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail
  • PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO SCS3 SILENT 512MB DDR2 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
  • Zalman ZM-WB5 Water Cooling CPU Block
  • Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

£320 incl VAT

What ya think...?

And what type of Overclock can i expect...?

Also can i install windows straight onto a SATA drive (which i will be having as my C drive) or am i going to have any issues with it?

It will have the following config:

SATA1: C:Drive
SATA2: D: Temp Drive
SATA3: DVDRW
SATA4: Blank

My friend has the same one TG480 U01. Yes it is compatible with LGA775 system so there really is no need for a new PSU.

Yes you can install straight onto SATA drive unless you configured SATA as AHCI or raid in which case you'll need to load ICH9R drivers during winxp installation process or have it slipstreamed onto the installation disk.

Windows Vista however has native support for AHCI so no need to load drivers.
