Hello, can you advise me on an upgrade? I have around £600-£700 on a Processor, Motherboard, Ram and a Graphics card. I think i should wait until the G92's out which will alter the prices of the 8800's so this is just an outline for what i should buy, if one can help me? I have a 17'' Flat Screen monitor and a 700watt psu, so you have a bit more information on my current specs to help with the new ones.

You said you ahd 700w?

Unless it is one of the old hipers then your ok. The new ones are terrible. They have been reviewed to say they are good 380w psu's, anything over that and they start getting sketchy and into the 400w's and your risking damaging your comonents.

I wouldn't power a GTS on one. While the total wattage is probably going to be just under 400w i still would rather peice of mind.


Also as i keep asying dont get the abit Ip-e as it doesn't ovreclock and they have boot issues taht have still not been sorted out in bios updates asfar as im aware.

The zalman isn't really a very good cpu cooler for a quad either. Get the turniq tower. its the best in my eyes as the thermalright ultra is only a few degrees better but a lot more expensive.

You dont need crucial balstix 8500 either. Get 4gb of geil or ocz ram isntead of just 10 quid more. far better and it will still run up to 950mhz.

Infact i think ill jsut spec you lol brb .

Ok then heres my spec:

4gb of ram instead of 2gb and its 800mhz. You wont notice any difference between 800mhz and 1000mhz in a game.

A better cooler to allow you to overclock taht quad allthe way up to 3.6 if you wanted too.

A psu because unless thats one of the old and solid hipers i wouldn't trust it and this corsair will last you for a long time.

wait a few weeks (reconed to be the end of november) for the new GTS's they will be faster and ovreclock like mad. The current gts will drop in price fast as the new GT is only going to be 130ish quid its beleive and will ovreclock very well also and some say be just as powerful as the current gts.

Its a hiper 580w right? I say get a new psu it isn't worth lossing all that hardware over a badly made psu. if you go with what i proposed it doesn't even strech your budget. But make sure you wait for the new gts coming out soon.
 
a bit too expensive, i want to try and keep it close to £600 as possible, also silent as possible. I will probably be running XP on my system, is there any point in having 4 gig of ram as XP only finds 3.3gig?
 
yes there is point but vista 64bit really is nice with 4gb. its how it handles the memory differntly to 32bit. Also the way it handles data its hard to explain but the data takes up more space on the ram (hence needing more ram) but it is quicker and more efficent.

The antec is a really nice case. Sound proofed with silicon grommits for optical and hard drives to stop vibrations making a nice; well ventalated with a top exhaust as well; holes in the back for water cooling; separate compartment for the psu and generaly built very well.
