Hi folks

I've got the itch again that needs scratched by doing an upgrade. Current set up is below and mainly used for gaming, f1 2011, assassin's creed, bf3 etc. I'm also getting into some photo editing now, nothing heavy duty

I'm keeping the psu and the gpu, I'll look to upgrade to maybe a 7850 soon. Interested in people's thought's, especially the case. Don't really want to spend much more on a case if I can help it, but if there's a good reason then could go further. I'd like it to be as cool and quiet as possible.

Thanks

Thanks guys. I'm really liking that antec case, could be tempted to go the little extra to get that. As for the ssd, I've never had one, but have read a lot of horror stories about sandforce controllers so I'd be wary about that kingston drive. I've had gigabyte boards the last couple of times, I guess I just fancied a change. Never had a problem with them so I guess there is no reason to go with a different manufacturer.

I know it's difficult to say, but what sort of reasonable overclock would I get out of the cpu on the gigabyte board, without over volting?

For gaming is there any mileage in reusing your case, changing your cpu/mb and memory and then putting the balance towards a storming graphics card?

You can add a SSD, CPU cooler and a HDD as upgrades later....

Hi jpod

Thing is I have a friend who's pc sounds like it's on it's last legs. Plan is to give him mine bar the psu and graphics card, have spares I can put into it.

Ahh...understood, what a cool mate, you'll want to choose a quality case that you will use over and over again for years. I like the Antec case that has already been posted.

How about some build pics when you get round to it, best of luck :p

I have a Z9. It's a great starters case. Four 120mm fans, fan controller, digital temp display, cable management with inc. P4/8 extension lead. I'd take it over the Asgard case anyday. Move the fan off the side panel of the Z9 as it makes a bit of noise there, I shifted it to the ceiling of the case and wired the 2 fans to the controller. If you like the Antec case that's not a great deal more.

612S cooler is designed to be quiet. Easy snap on brackets for the fans, no awkward wireclips and you have enough brackets to mount two fans and a reusable tube of paste. The matterhorn is a good heatsink but uses wire clips and only has enough for one fan, it comes with a one use sachet of paste too

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the advice guys. Looked at a few reviews of the antec case and I'm really liking it, especially for the cable management, so don't mind spending a bit extra on that. Would finally love to build a computer that's got a really clean look. I usually just bosh it all together, I did cable tie the one I have now though.

Nothing will happen this week, I'm away on training for the rest of the week now.
