Hi

The time has come to upgrade my current PC, after 6 years its time to move on from a I7 920.

I have approx £1800 to spend upgrading from the below PC spec, will be mainly used for gaming.

Asus P6T Deluxe
I7 920 @ 3.4GHz
6GB Ram
750GB hhd
512GB 840 Pro (keep)
Titan X (keep)
1300w Tagan piperock psu
Cosmos Sport Case

I currently have DGM 1440p monitor and a cheap keyboard too.

I am not sure whether to go the X99 over-clocked bundle route or Z97 over-clocked bundle route. Should I go all out for 5960x, fast DD4 and good motherboard or go cheaper Z97 and get another Titan X for Sli, or possibly middle ground with a 5820k bundle and perhaps 4k monitor?

I do need another SSD of at least 500GB and windows 8.

I am also going be giving my 920 (Coolermaster V8 sink on top) to my parents so a cheap case and PSU will also be required to house this, however that can be added on additionally to the budget.

Thoughts and feedback will be appreciated, I hope to place order in next 5 days so I can put together next weekend.

Thanks

Jim

err

What do you use it for?

What parts are you giving away exactly? cpu, board, ram and Titan? or do you need a cheap gfx card for it in a new case with PSU?

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI X99S SLI Plus - TeamGroup 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 Intel X99 Motherboard Bundle **£40 OFF** £249.98
- 1 x Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail (BX80648I75820K) £319.99
1 x Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500B/EU) £155.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Case - Black £119.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H110i GT 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060019-WW) £99.95
Total : £960.90 (includes shipping : £12.50 Ex.VAT).

You can select higher grade CPUs with this bundle.

Im not to sure you should keep the PSU, its rather old and not that great, I cant even find if its bronze, silver, gold rated etc.

The i7 920 will want to go into something like,

1 x Antec TruePower Classic 550w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply £53.99
1 x Antec VSP5000 Silenced Tower Case - Black £39.95
1 x Sapphire Radeon R7 240 Boost 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card £39.95
1 x Palit GeForce GT 730 SILENT 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card £38.99
1 x Antec GX500 Midi-Tower - Black £32.99
Total : £227.28 (includes shipping : £17.85 Ex.VAT).

So a choice of two cases.

But they wont fit a V8 cooler in them, its just too tall. A new heatsink is £20 roughly and will fit in these cases, maybe cheaper to do that than find a case that fits a V8.

And some sort of cheap gfx card to get it up and running, unless they want to play games?

Hi

The PSU is 80 plus bronze I think. The PSU is about 5 years old, it replaced the 900 watt Tagan that died previously.

Hmm, its still not something I personally would use.

Thanks for the feedback so far, hmm maybe it would be better giving my folks the Cosmos case and Tagan PSU and buy new case and PSU for myself.

There is an old X800 pro which I can put in there for them.

Yes, give them the cosmo as that way the cooler fits as its already in there.

There are cases that will fit the V8 but they aint what you call "cheap" sub £40 etc.

I'd defo upgrade the PSU (because of age) it would probably be fine but as you are upgrading I'd at least consider it if you have money left over for it. Anyway I'll leave you in the capable hands of stulid. :)

I quite like the big cases so went for 900D, Added optical drive and Windows. Not too fussed about the cable sets.

Would a 1000w psu allow for a additional Titan x in the future for SLI or would I need a bigger psu?

Is there much of a difference between a 5820k and 5930k?

If you like big cases then spend £200 on a Phanteks Primo.

Theres a white one on offer at £179 with a free heatsink, maybe you can ask for the black+white heatsink so it matches.

Look how big they are,

There's a door on the case to hide the drive, retail drives usually include playback software.

Ok, that case does look good and it would save me some money too.......

However my folks have agreed to buy my pc less the Titan X and the 840 pro for £300 so my budget is now £1800.

Worth pushing the boat out for the 5960X ?
