Hello all, I need some advice from your humble selves.

My current spec is in my sig and my graphics card atm is a Saph' R9 280X VapourX @ 1070/1550MHz and I game at 1080p on my 40 inch TV in my living room.

Now I have used AMD cards forever, I have just in general like the drivers and the way they are made, build quality etc. However with a few games recently AMD have dropped the ball and are getting out performed in many instances.

I am thinking of upgrading to a GTX 970. To be exact the MSI one here.

I know it would be a worthy upgrade to my 280x and the power draw from the GTX 970 is so much lower.

The MSI version always stands out in reviews and yes there are more powerful 970's out there but with only a small increase in performace with a heavier price tag. I aim to overclock the MSI GTX 970 myself anyways.

Also I have ruled out AMD's 390 series as they are too big to fit in my case. Same goes for any 3 fan GTX 970's.

My question; upgrade to a GTX 970, is it worth it? Or do I wait for a newer nVidia card to come out?

** No price checks outside the Members Market **

Thanks. :D

Personally, I would wait until the first quarter of 2016 to find out exactly what is coming out from both vendors in their new line ups. You can save a bit more money in that time and even if you cannot afford the latest and greatest it will hopefully mean that todays latest and greatest may be a little cheaper by then.

You have almost the same system as myself and I gave my lad my old 280X which runs his games great in 1080p. It's still a good little card and I would have hung onto it myself and waited but it's the only card in the lineup that didnt have Freesync support at the time. Mind you, back when I bought it I wasnt even looking at Freesync or G-Sync.

:)

You could be waiting 4-6 months for the new cards so it's up to you. Game now or wait.
I prefer to game now if it was just a case of waiting a month or two then wait but not more than 4 months. No way is anything coming out before April best case. Thats a long time to not be doing the gaming you want to do
