upgrade to am3 or not (need very quick replys)

i've just setup my am3 system with:
Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Patriot G Series AMD 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel
AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720

its running and everything loads quicker, but it's not stable.

what is the 720 stock voltage? its saying 1.25v in the bios & cpu-z. i thought it should be 1.32v?

1.325v is stock for a 720 as far as I know yea.

I'm glad you got it all setup and it's working correctly anyway, however, it's probably loading things quicker because it's a fresh install, everything seems snappier and more immediate on a nice fresh Windows install :) ...the system should actually be slower at stock speeds than your 940, and considering you had yours clocked at 3.7GHz according to your sig ...well it'll crush the 720 until some serious overclocking is applied.
i haven't installed a fresh windows...:D. windows 7 is still running from the old setup, i guess because it's the same chipset..

i have a problem now, its not stable at stock. i ran prime95 and all 3 cores had a error

I'd try reseating the cpu & memory tbh, and doublecheck the BIOS settings, memory timings etc.

If that doesn't help, try a fresh install, see if it makes a difference.
seems like a memory problem. on 1333mhz it runs perfectly. but on 1600mhz with 1.7v it just gives errors. i set the timings to 7-7-7-20 but still the same, also tryed 7-11-11-30 but still errors

Can't believe you're jumping to AM3 from your current setup! It was a good setup!

i already said afew reasons why i needed to upgrade to am3. ddr3 is a very small reason. needing better pcie slots layout and more sata ports, was/is the important reasons. i wasn't going for a performance boosts.

u can't add pcie slots to a motherboard right? u can't add sata ports to a motherboard without having a pci/pcie slot free right?

so that why i justed to am3.

I take it you have increased the FSB to achieve this? ...have you backed off the multiplier on the cpu so that isn't overclocked ?

Try 9-9-9-24 at 1600Mhz anyway, with a CMD of 2.
when i set it to 1600mhz , the cpu clock speed don't change, only the ram speed changes..

i will try 9-9-9-24 at 1600Mhz

well i've just overclocked my 720 to 3.7ghz with 1.4v , which is great. the temps are much better than my 940. the 940 @ 3.7ghz running with all 4 cores got ~55c underload, the 940 @ 3.7ghz running with 3 cores it got 45c underload.

but the 720 @ 3.7ghz gets 31c underload.

the only problem i have is the CPU-NB voltage, when i up it then save and exit the bios, it doesn't seem to of upped it, everest still says 1.2v,

update.

i've fixed the CPU-NB voltage problem. everest only shows the stock vid on this board.

hows this?

upped the nb to 2.4ghz with 1.225v, temps never go above 33c on the cores.
