Hi guys,

Recently got AC: Syndicate on steam, great fun and such a pretty game but my poor rig is struggling quite a bit.

AMD Phenom II x6 1055t @ 3.8ghz,
12GB XMS3 DDR3 @ 1600mhz
Radeon 6970 2GB & Radeon 6950 2GB (unlocked shaders) in crossfire
Windows 10 64 bit
Samsung Evo 840 120GB
XFX Pro 750W psu

On high settings I get around 10-25 fps tops, but during chase scenes etc it makes the game very hard, if I put it up to Ultra high I get 1fps haha, I was looking at something like the R9 390 8GB to replace my crossfire, will this do the trick on it's own or is my CPU still going to be a let down?

Cheers!

Can offer a layman opinion only. Your CPU should be fine. I have a 8320 which I believe isn't a whole lot better than yours. I run AC: Syndicate on Ultra settings just fine. That's with a 980GTX

A R9 390 8GB is roughly equal to a 970GTX which I believe should be just fine for you. Or a 970GTX. Keep an eye on MM.

Oh there's not a whole lot in performance between the two, and oddly the radeon is quite a bit cheaper :o

I wouldn't generally recommend buying a new card. On OCUK the nature of the posters are to throw the latest cards in the rubbish bin once a new card gets released. Once Pascal hits, the MM will be flooded with 980 Ti / 980/970GTX cards as a lot of people can't bear the thought of there being a card out there that's 5% faster than their current card. It's literally all psychological. Although with 4K getting more into mainstream these days, I guess those cards could help but it's still a tiny market.

I can't remember the last new graphics card I bought. Years and years ago. There's just no reason to.

But, your money and all that. The R9 390 8GB is a great card and you shouldn't have any issues with it on AC: Syndicate :) . Check out a few YouTube vids of AC: Syndicate with that card. Bound to be some out there.

And maybe one last thing. From personal experience and reading what others are saying on here, XFire/ SLI is generally a crap idea. Go single card.

With my system and Ultra setting on Environment and high for the other two setting with HBOA and FFXA I get 57-61fps

I'm willing to bet it's the lack of Vram that's causing most of your issues though.
