morning.
i currently have the following
Skylake i6700K on 1151LGA
Asus Maximus VIII Hero
was looking to upgrade to win 11 but my cpu doesn't meet the requirements.
there are a few threads with workarounds and maybe in the past I would attempt it but I'm too old to get my head around it all now unfortunately.
Is there a cpu out there that I can bung in my machine now or will it be cpu/mobo upgrade?
thanks

Having a quick look here

the oldest CPU Windows 11 supported was 9th gen and yours is a 6th gen so no CPU for that generation supports Windows 11.

I would just download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft and use Rufus to remove the requirements when burning the ISO to a USB stick

video on how to do it

Download for Rufus - https://rufus.ie/en/

Guide with pictures if you prefer this over the video

6th gen CPUs work fine if you have secure boot and TPM enabled, I didn't even need a 'hack'.

Windows 10 is EOL Oct 14th 2025.
that's oct 2025 though, pretty far off, and even then the only thing that will strictly need win11 is 365, this is something to worry about much futher down the line imo, microsoft have a year to sort out win11 working for the mainstream, without having to upgrade their PC which I think M$ will do to keep the vast majority of 365 paying customers happy.

is W11 still problematic? i've been using it on my work laptop for ages and other than quirky access to control panel items it's been fine. I was wondering about my gaming PC to get better HDR support
