Upgrade

I'm planning on upgrading my handset soon and i was wondering if i was to buy a pay as you go phone and put my current sim card in would it be ok?
I'm currently on a monthly contract. The reason i,m thinking of doing this is because the phones which are available to me are not very good.I'll be staying on the same netwok.

As long as the phone is unlocked to the network your SIM is then yea it will work.

so you're gona get a free upgrade phone, sell that phone, sell your current phone and get a new phone on PAYG and put your SIM in it?
