I've been out of the desktop game a while now so I'm not sure what I should upgrade in the below system;

ASRock mobo with ULi chipset
Opteron 144 (1.8GHz 1mb L2) running at 2.7GHz (2400MHz HTT)
1GB DDR running ~500FSB
HIS X1900GT

I was thinking the most cost effective solution would be 2GB of fast DDR, make much difference in modern games? I would hazard a guess at yes.

Suggestions?

Yeah the RAM upgrade would help relieve stuttering in games, the CPU and GFX should be fine in the latest games really, nothing wrong their.

Problem is though is that DDR prices are sky high, so second hand is the way to go.

Yeah they are bloody high aren't they, £165 for 2GB of Geil Value.

I might take the plunge as I don't see even the X2 AMD range making that much of a difference over my current CPU, the only real route would be a complete change to core2 and that would be pricey (and I don't think I can be bothered either). :D

Yeah I've held off upgrading my S939 system, the cost/benefit is weak compared to C2Duo, but the hassle of a full upgrade is enough to hold me back for a while.
