I currently have a AMD Athlon 64X2 5400+ i have been able to play all the games i have wanted over the last year, my mobo on supports AMDX2, whats the best CPU i can get?

I want to get another few month out of the pc before i start a new build.

Im thinking, if i get this will i need a new system build?

Will this justify not upgrading?

Or should i fork out the £100 and get the Phenom ?

Im happy with my setup now, i know a new CPU will give my games that extra breathing space, and preform better.
 
Going to find a 6400 this should be enough till i get a new system build.

Now to find one lol...

EDIT: I also have had no problems maxing out my games at 1680x1050 with everything on max. Just allot of the games i play are all Source Based Engine games. When the source engine was developed, GFX Cards back then were not good enough to take the full load, so the game was developed to be CPU intensive as CPU's were more powerfull.

This is still the case today, L4D is extremely CPU intensive, so the extra power from the 6400 will just do
