Looking at an upgrade around £400-500 budget.

Have:
Case
PSU (450W Corsair)
DVD drive (SATA)
*OS* (Windows 7)
Possibly GPU
HDD

Looking for 2 options, 1 with a GPU and 1 without. Both on the same budget.

Mainly gaming rig.

For giggles a build with an SSD on the same budget too but this isn't needed.

Thanks folks!

Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle :-http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-023-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1802 £ 344.99 :)

Asus GeForce GTX 560 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [ENGTX560DC/2DI/1GD5] £149.99

No use in a 2600k over a 2500k as it wont be used for anything that will use HT.

I think a 6850 or 6870 would be better for the money on the GPU.

You'd want a new PSU too I would think. Don't think 450w is powerful enough, but obviously happy fr someone to tell me I'm wrong. The Antec Current High Gamer 620w is a great Seasonic based unit and is only £49.99 at the moment which is an absolute steal! Unfortunately it puts a strain on your budget:(

Do you have a cooler or are you happy to use the stock cooler for a bit until you have more funds?

Stock cooler will be fine, I have a cooler available in a couple of weeks so it will be changed then. 450W should be fine but it all depends how far the upgrade goes.

Only go AMD if you wanna include the GPU in the budget, the i5-2500k is better than any AMD based spec at the moment.

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £219.98

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 970 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.50GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £119.99

Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply £49.99

MSI 870-C45 AMD 770 Chipset (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £48.00

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3P1333LV4GK) £29.99

Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £27.98

Total : £507.94 (includes shipping : £10.00)

That 6950 is flashable to a 6970 - if your not gonna do that then go for the Twin Frozr III 6950 for £15 less.

Thats what I though with the GPU and AMD build. I know the 2500k is a much better proc but the savings you can make for a decent preformance with an AMD build means more money for GPU :D

How does a 1090 compare to the 970/975? Are the extra threads only going to be noticed in things like video rendering and such?

Yep, you won't notice any difference in gaming, just in video rendering, etc, as you said.

Depending on when this needs to be built, you could wait around for a couple of weeks to see what the low end of the BullDozer range is priced at, but they may not be released until mid July now so it's up to you.
