Upgrade?

Well it's looking like a GPU upgrade and shifting my old cards will take a bit off the price which is a bonus! So here are my options:

980ti
Fury X
R9 390 X2

The question I am left with now is which would benefit me most in my current setup and which would be better moving forward onto a new platform with SLI/CF for 4k?

The dual gpu card no ......way
If you go dual r9 390 or 390x
The amount of heat they generate is a bit unreasonable
I have the r9 390x the MSI version and I find power consumption as being about 220-240w nower near the 370w some websites suggest
But the ammount of heat it makes is nuts
Had to increase fan RPM for case fans
As it was heating the system
Tripple 120 front
Dual 140 top
Singal 120 back
Singal 120 bittem
All of them required to keep system nice and cool on 50-70% RPM
System power consumption from wall 400W
OC on cpu as well

That sounds like a nice choice
By the way the gtx 980ti generates a lot of heat as well
But nobudy complains about it because it is the top card
And do include the budget well they do not come cheap
But yes for 4k your system with gtx 980ti
Is the fastest and best option

Since you game at 1080 I would stick with what you got for 4k you might as well wait for the next series of cards and cpu to follow to either pick up the last series cheaper or get the new stuff

If they get a smaller fabrication process for the next generation of cards
That will be an upgrade worth waiting for
Otherwise if you want something buy it

Think i'm gonna go with the 980ti for now just to up the frames a bit, save heat and power and increase the available VRAM. Then when I turn to 4k gaming I'll double up the GPUs and also get the best platform for the job.

Thanks for all the help/advice fellas! :D

I have a similar system to you and my 2500k at 4.7GHz isn't bottlenecking my 970 at all. Get an SSD and maybe wait on upgrading the rest as if you are playing at 1080p you shouldn't have any issues
