hiya, i want to do a bit of a upgrade to my pc but i was wondering what cpu i should go for and if i really need a ram upgrade, i currently have a intel i5 250k at 3.30 GHZ and 8gb of ram, my main issue is i have no idea what cpu to go for i'd rather stick with intel as i trust them and have had issues before when i went to amd, could someone let me know please :D

my motherboard is a asrock z68 extreme4 gen3 so i know its a pretty old board:(

Your 2500k STILL has plenty of life in it yet! I assume you havent overclocked it? Save yourself a lot of cash by just buying a better cooler and get the i5 to 4ghz easy!

What do you do on the pc? Mainly gaming?

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

I agree with the above. The 2500k is still a excellent cpu and most will hit 4.5Ghz easily enough. What do you use the pc for, gaming? What res do you game at and what gpu do you have? You may see a bigger performance increase from a new gpu if yours is a couple of years old or a lower end model.

i bought a massive heat sink when i bought the system and i got a case with 3 massive fans on the bottom a Raven 2 Evo Midi Tower Case so i'm not to worried about over heating, yeah gaming mainly, would overclocking it make more sense if i just want a increase in power? i have no idea how to over clock tho.

I'd overclock it as hard as possible to start with but I do agree that they are becoming long in the tooth but Intel really arn't making me want to buy anything yet with useless incremental upgrades.

Agree with the chaps above, there's not a lot of things that a 2500k can't handle with adequate cooling and a good overclock. Never had a processor/motherboard last so long :)

There are a few exceptions though, namely things that would appreciate the hyperthreading of an i7. What sort of games/tasks do you do?

i mainly play at 1080p i do prefer big rpg games e.g. skyrim, fallout. is there an easy way to overclock? i'm a complete noob when it comes to that sort of thing, or is there a good place to get a guide to it? i've tried doing the old google search but i have no idea what they are going on about.
