Quick Question regarding my product key on Windows 10...when I go into System, under the Windows Activation it has the product ID, is this the number I need to note down for when I do a fresh install?

Only reason I ask is I may be upgrading to an SSD next month but have completely misplaced my Windows 8 key from when we moved house, it will be in a box somewhere but no idea which one as it isn't in the ones marked up as 'Study'! Don't want to find out after getting the SSD I have no windows key!

Thanks

once you have upgraded to W10, make sure its activated.

once done you can download the W10 tool to create a bootable USB stick or DVD.

during install it will ask you for a product key, skip both of these and then W10 will activate once online by hardware ID of your motherboard.

Great thanks for that :)

What happens if I ever change my Motherboard? Is the product ID my serial key?

the free upgrade is tied to your motherboard, if you upgrade the bios or change mobo you will need to get a retail copy of W10 as the upgrade is to a OEM version.

is your previous OS a retail copy or OEM copy? if its retail microsoft may give you a W10 product key if you ever change the motherboard

Just done a fresh install Win 10 Pro using Disc after doing a upgrade, just skip the entering the Product key and carry on with the installation.

You'll find its activated, even off Disc installion is quick.
