Just a quick one. Went AM2 since it has a better upgrade path.

£279.95 £279.95

GX-047-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO)
£229.95 £229.95
Subtotal £624.85

Beefy RAM too if you want to take advantage of the DDR2 mem controller. But 750 quid budget for 3 items one has to go silly :D

Why the SLi MOBO? Its not a SLi card is it?

Agreed, no need to get a top of the range 590 SLI board. Just get an Abit Ultra (MB-096-AB) or MSI Platinum (MB-070-MS). Wonder when we'll get AM2 crossfire boards. :)

do i need ddr2 ram though?

im on crucial ballistix atm its not ddr2

Yes, you need DDR2. If you don't have that (or don't want to buy it) then consider a Socket 939 spec.

any socket 939 specs then?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4400CDBOX) (CP-127-AM)
£274.95
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-014-DF)
£74.95
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO)
£229.95

Total £681.33

Socket 939 spec..

might be able to squeeze in a 4600

The ATi is the best card out at the moment. Beats a lot of SLi setups by itself too :D And as already said they're cheaper too :)

I wouldn't bother with a 4600+ as mentioned earlier. The two sweet spots with the X2 range are the 3800+ and 4400+. The 4400+ benefits from a larger cache than the 3800+. All the other CPUs are somewhat useless since you can easily overclock the 3800/4400 to match the higher spec CPUs.

I said in my second post that the spec I originally chose was a little silly. I had 750 quid to spend on 3 items :D However since he doesn't already have DDR2 RAM its all academic.
